Our Jackie vs. Cancer
In mid-July 2016, our Jackie Russo, a loving mother and all around wonderful person, was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Colon Cancer (colon cancer that has spread to lymph nodes and liver). We were all blindsided. She was so healthy, so positive, so strong; It didn’t make sense.
There is no better adjective to describe Jackie than GIVING. Despite being raised under difficult circumstances, she persevered and established herself as an amazing mother, loving sister and aunt, loyal friend, devoted daughter, committed significant other, dedicated employee, and someone so unbelievably kind and generous to all those in her life. She is the first to offer help and the last to ask for it.
Another immense part of her character is her STRENGTH. This is something that she has demonstrated since her diagnosis. Despite heavy doses of chemo treatments, every other week, she continues with her day-to-day activities. Jackie has set her mind on prolonging her life.
When we think of Jackie, we think of the most amazing smile and her willingness to help others. She gives so freely – to individuals and to causes like Meals on Wheels, The Food Bank, McMahon Child Advocacy, Paige’s Butterfly Run, The American Heart Association and Susan G. Komen… to name just a few.
Since her diagnosis, hundreds of people have reached out to offer support. As many people know, a life shattering diagnosis like this does not come without cost - significant costs for treatments not covered by insurance.
Let’s fight this fight with Jackie and give her the best possible chance to beat this! Our world is a better, brighter place with her in it!
